Summer Camp Scholarships & Tuition Assistance Programs

Performing Arts Workshops, VOTED BEST SUMMER CAMP in LA Parent Magazine, announces that 200 scholarships for Summer Camp are available!

Summer is rapidly approaching, and it is time for parents to once again make plans for their children while school is out. If the last few years have taught us anything, it is that kids don’t stop being kids just because of a pandemic and the devastating effect it had on the economy and family finances. While the world is getting used to the new normal, parents are faced with the challenge of adding the cost of summer day-care and activities to their already stretched budgets.

Fortunately, there are summer camps that are sensitive to the needs of families and are stepping up to help. Performing Arts Workshops, winner of BEST Summer Camp in LA Parent Magazine, has been offering arts-based after school and summer camp programming for over 30 years. Their long-standing mission of providing quality arts-based classes and camps to children regardless of finances, has been made possible through their 2 scholarship and family discount programs.

Their first scholarship program is the Matching Fund Scholarship. Through a generous donation, 200 scholarships for PAW’s Musical Theater Camp are available on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone! For the 15th year their donor, a Los Angeles community member and arts advocate, wants to make sure that every child in Los Angeles has the opportunity to experience a Performing Arts Summer Camp. She believes that an arts education is essential for a child’s growth and development, and she created this fund so that children can use their summers to build on and enhance what they learned in the classrooms during the school year—in a fun and exciting way! The Matching Fund Scholarship provides half of the tuition for any of PAW’S MUSICAL THEATER CAMPS when the parent matches the remaining $435 for the two-week session. With a limit of one scholarship offered to each child in a family, there are no conditions or prerequisites. To receive an authorized (MFS) scholarship, a parent only needs to call the PAW office at (310) 827-8827 to be placed in the donor book.

The second PAW scholarship program is the Ambassador Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to create those opportunities for children who would otherwise go without them, as well as increase the number of camp sessions and camp electives for those families wishing to maximize their children’s summer camp opportunities. The PAW Ambassador Scholarship is a service-in-exchange for tuition program. By volunteering just ONE DAY (or a total of 8 hours as your schedule permits) you will receive half off your summer camp tuition and help to further PAW’s arts education mission by spreading the word about their camps, and their many scholarships & discount programs, thereby enabling more children in your community to enjoy the benefits of a rewarding summer camp experience. The Ambassador Scholarship is truly a win-win opportunity. You can even be a repeat ambassador and enjoy half off every session of camp you enroll in, for each 8 hours of service you volunteer. Cheryl Appleman, president of Performing Arts Workshops, created these scholarship assistance programs because she feels every child should be afforded the opportunity to experience the arts, and all that the arts have to offer in the way of character building, life skills, and academic enrichment. “I know many of the families we serve and know the hardships they’re going through. When your child is passionate about something and you have to tell them, ‘no’, because of finances, that really hurts. I remember what that’s like. I developed our scholarship and discount programs because I was a scholarship kid, too. My dance teacher took me under her wing and gave me the opportunities and guidance I needed. Her scholarship made it possible, and it changed my life.”
