Join Tricia O’Brien in this engaging, two-day experimental monoprinting workshop using recycled materials. As you print your way through this weekend series, you will create abstract images using recyclable, natural and sustainable materials – Think of assorted discarded objects such as bubble wrap, raffia, avocado and citrus bags, tissue paper, plastic bags, leaves and other items. When these materials are put through a traditional printing press, you’ll be able to create unique impressions and develop abstract shapes directly on paper. The element of surprise will keep you returning to this process where you can then either re-work the image by putting it back through the press to add more color, or take home to hand color, if so desired. This imperfect art form is a complete expression of what it means to be spontaneous and have fun creating in the moment without expectation. No prior printmaking experience required. All levels welcome!

Day one of the workshop will be an introduction and students will focus on working with 6″x6″ plates to create small prints on paper. Working with small plates allows us to see how each material leaves markings and how the ink is dispersed. On day two, the class will move to working on a larger surface and see how this changes the equation and process. Students will walk away with a general understanding of the beginning monotype printmaking process and a stack of beautiful prints!

All art-making supplies are provided through the materials fee, but feel free to bring any special recyclable materials that you would like to try.

Please share any special considerations (medical, physical, learning) that will help your instructor make your class accessible and accommodating for you. You can share these considerations when registering or by emailing Sean at [email protected].
