Surge In Tire Thefts Seen In Walnut Creek: Police

Police warned the public about the thefts and gave some words of advice.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — The Walnut Creek Police Department alerted the community this week to a recent surge in tire thefts from Honda and Toyota vehicles parked in apartment complexes across the city.

Most of the thefts have taken place during the nighttime hours at apartment complex parking areas, police said.

Other Bay Area cities, including Petaluma and Rohnert Park, have reported similar tire thefts.

Walnut Creek police said residents should be vigilant and pay close attention to any suspicious activity around parked vehicles, especially during late hours.

Police said that whenever possible, residents should park in well-lit areas or secure garages and consider installing wheel locks or other anti-theft devices on their cars.

Installing surveillance cameras also helps as a deterrent or investigative tool.

Police asked anyone who notices unusual behavior or individuals loitering around parked cars to contact the Walnut Creek Police Department immediately by calling 911 or the city's non-emergency line, 925-243-5844. People can also provide tips anonymously through the police department's website or by calling the non-emergency number.
