CONNECTICUT — In the good news department, it appears the weekend weather forecast is changing for the better.

A storm system is forecast to move slowly our way, which means Saturday should be dry and most of Sunday may be dry. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast for Sunday night and on Monday, according to the latest forecast updates.

Canadian wildfire smoke impacts on us Friday

On Friday, you'll notice hazy sunshine, which is a result of the "Canadian wildfire smoke that will dim or filter the sunshine. Provided this round of smoke will be thicker than the last few times we have seen it here in CT, air quality may not be ideal (current forecast is moderate). Meanwhile, expect temps to reach the mid to upper 80s (a few degrees above average for mid-August)," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

"A storm system from the west will approach, but do so slowly and because of this we may be able to squeak out a mainly dry weekend! Saturday now looks to feature a blend of sun and clouds. It will be muggy with highs in the low to mid-80s. Then Sunday is partly to mostly cloudy, and perhaps a degree or two cooler while remaining muggy. While not entirely dry, the chance for an isolated shower or storm is low and mainly for those communities near the NY border," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

Thunderstorms return

"The system that slowly approaches over the weekend will bring an unsettled start to next week. In fact, we have shifted our First Alert to Monday for the possibility of heavier rain and thunderstorms," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

Hurricane Ernesto update for us

"Fortunately, the storm should stay far offshore from Southern New England. For Atlantic facing coastline, there could be rough surf and concern for rip currents." (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
