CT Primary Election Results: Corey, Goldstein Win GOP Primary Races

Businessman Matthew Corey​ and ophthalmologist Michael Goldstein won their GOP Primary races Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

CONNECTICUT — Navy veteran Matthew Corey and ophthalmologist Michael Goldstein won their Republican Party Primary election races Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

Manchester native and businessman Corey defeated Beacon Falls first selectman Gerry Smith for the privilege of challenging Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy for his seat in the U.S. Senate. Corey thanked Connecticut Republicans on X in a post made at 9:52 p.m., saying "I am deeply honored by the trust you have placed on me." He also thanked Smith for "his very gracious phone call" conceding the race, shortly after 10 p.m.

The final vote total was 18,833 for Corey and 15,600 for Smith.

In the only other race involving a seat in Washington, D.C., Greenwich ophthalmologist Michael Goldstein defeated long-time Fairfield political activist Bob MacGuffie. Goldstein will now go on to challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes for his seat representing the state's Fourth District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Goldstein received 4,170 votes and MacGuffie 3,688.
