2 Danbury Juveniles Arrested After Trying To Break Into Cars: PD

DANBURY, CT — A pair of juveniles from Danbury, aged 14 and 17, were arrested late Wednesday, after police said the two had tried to break into vehicles in Westport.

The incident began on Hillspoint Road near Compo Beach, when Westport police received a report that two people were trying to break into vehicles.

"Westport Police along with members of the Bridgeport Auto-Theft Task Force (BATF) responded to the area and set up a perimeter," wrote Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "Two suspect vehicles, both stolen from other jurisdictions, were seen leaving the area and Westport Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Neither vehicle stopped and Westport Police did not pursue."

One of the vehicles was followed onto I-95 by unmarked cars from the auto theft task force, and it was eventually stopped in Stratford, and the two juveniles were taken into custody.

  • Engaging police in pursuit
  • Criminal attempt to assault public safety officer
  • First-degree larceny of motor vehicle
  • Interfering with an officer

The juvenile who was a passenger in the vehicle was charged with:

  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny
  • Interfering with an officer

Both juveniles were released to the custody of their parents, and are scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court at a later date.
