Daily Bread Food Pantry Helps Danbury Community Celebrate Thanksgiving

A whole lot of cranberry sauce: Daily Bread Food Pantry in Danbury broke Thanksgiving food distribution records earlier this week.

DANBURY, CT — On Monday, Daily Bread Food Pantry welcomed more than 750 food insecure households to its home on Terrace Place for its annual Thanksgiving food distribution, breaking a record for the forty-year-old organization.

On this sunny but chilly day, spirits were high as every family carried away the fixings for a generous holiday meal including a frozen turkey, an assortment of fresh vegetables, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, eggs, milk, and a freshly baked pie among other items. A line of guests stretched down the street and around the block for hours and more than 50 volunteers worked outside, undeterred by the cold.

Daily Bread Food Pantry, founded in 1984 in central Danbury, is one of the oldest and largest providers of charitable food in southern Connecticut. It distributes food free of charge to thousands of food insecure individuals and families in the Greater Danbury Area throughout the year. Visits to the Pantry have increased dramatically over the past few years and continue to grow steadily, according to Daily Bread past president Debbie Landzberg.
