Danbury Hometown Heroes Banner Program Has Successful Third Year

Banners will be on display in downtown Danbury and at Danbury City Hall from Memorial Day through Veterans Day.

The Danbury Hometown Heroes Banner Program had another successful year with 66 banners now scheduled to be displayed in downtown Danbury on White Street and at Danbury City Hall. The banners will be installed by the Danbury Public Buildings Department in time for Memorial Day.

“The program is becoming very popular throughout the country with more and more cities coming onboard with a program of their own,” said Lee Teicholz, who is the Program Coordinator working in conjunction with the City of Danbury Veterans Affairs Office under the direction of Danny Hayes, Veterans Affairs Director. The Danbury Hometown Heroes Banner Program was started in 2022.

The program proudly recognizes active duty and veteran service members who have been honorably discharged, both living and deceased. Each banner honors a specific Danbury service member whether a current or past resident of the city and features his or her name, rank, branch of service, era of service, service dates, photo, and donor information. The cost is $120, which covers the printing, hardware and installation costs.

The banners are displayed from Memorial Day through Veterans Day and are placed in storage for the winter months. They can be redisplayed the following year for an additional fee of $60. Profits from the program are used to support veteran services in the City of Danbury. Applications for the 2025 display year will be accepted starting June 1st.
