Danbury Schools Superintendent Resigns, Cites 'Personal Issues'

Danbury Superintendent Kevin Walston has resigned his post, and will remain on paid leave through the end of June.

DANBURY, CT — Schools Superintendent Kevin Walston has resigned from his position.

Walston, who has been on leave since Wednesday "on a personal leave of absence," will remain out through the end of the school year, according to a statement released by the School Board 9:30 Friday night.

"The Danbury Board of Education supports Mr. Walston’s decision and wishes him well as he takes the time necessary to address his personal issues," Michael Seelig, chief strategy and operations officer for Danbury Schools, said in the statement.

Walston's leave of absence was announced earlier this week in an email from Kimberly Thompson, the school district’s human resources director and Board of Education legal counsel. At that time, Walston was projected to be back on the job on Feb. 5.

The Board has appointed Kara Casimiro, the district’s assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, to serve as interim superintendent

"The Board appreciates Dr. Casimiro’s willingness to serve the district in this capacity, and the Board wishes to assure the public that the Board and the Administration will continue their work together on behalf of the Danbury Public Schools community," Seelig said.
