Flash Flood Warning Issued For Fairfield County

The warning has just been issued by the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service said "an initial line of heavy rain and storms" continues to move east late Wednesday morning, but more showers and storms are possible in the afternoon.

"Additional showers & storms with heavy rainfall remain possible through this afternoon as they potentially develop to the west over the next several hours," the weather service said.

Flash flood watch details for southern Connecticut, which is in effect until 6 p.m.

"Showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rainfall which could result in rainfall rates up to 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Areas receiving multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain have a chance for flash flooding in low lying, poor drainage and urban areas," the weather service said.

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 73. Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. North wind 5 to 7 mph.


FAIRFIELD COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for interior sections of Fairfield County until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"At 726 AM EDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," the weather service wrote.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Emergency management reported flooding in Danbury.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Danbury, Southbury, Sherman, Newtown, Ridgefield, Bethel, Brookfield and New Fairfield.

  • Still River At Brookfield affecting Fairfield and Litchfield Counties.
