Musicals at Richter’s Fairy Tale Theater By Children for Children

23rd Season of Interactive Theater for Kids Continues at Richter Arts Center Saturday mornings July 13, 20 and 27

Danbury, Conn -- Musicals at Richter, Connecticut’s longest-running outdoor theater, continues its popular Fairy Tale Theater program, a daytime play series by and for young people, Saturday mornings July 13, 20 and 27. Performances are held rain or shine at Richter Arts Center, 100 Aunt Hack Road, in Danbury.


Under the direction of veteran performer Rob Mayette as narrator and host Alan-a-Dale, the shows feature hour-long, interactive adaptations of classic tales that include plenty of audience participation, a show-related craft activity, birthday recognitions and more.


"As the director of Fairy Tale Theater,” Mayette says, “I am thrilled that we have returned to Richter Park this year. We are excited to bring back a delightful mix of classic fairy tales and new stories set in magical lands. It’s a joy for our troupe to once again tell captivating stories for children amidst the beautiful woods surrounding the restored Richter House. We can’t wait to share these adventures with you all, young and young-at-heart alike!"

The 2024 season continues with "The Frog Princess" (July 13); "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Kasoganaga-A Tale from the Andes Mountains" (July 20); and "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen (July 27).


Fairy Tale Theater troupe members include: Jacqui Matchen and Rachelle Matchen (Bethel); Allyson Snyder (Brookfield); Troy Bresnick, Liberty Cummings, Chloe Dugay, Bradley Horosky, Lucy Morelli, Jerry Norton, Brisa Pierce, Vica Pierce, Jaelyn Sachs and Lilly Smith (Danbury); Braeden Athans (Oxford); Declan Brennan, Charlotte Mayette and Emily Mayette (Ridgefield).

As noted above, Fairy Tale Theater returns this year to the grounds of Richter Arts Center every Saturday morning in July. Grounds open at 10:30 AM for a show-related craft activity, with the show at 11 AM. Bring blankets or chairs for seating on the lawn along with sunscreen. The performance will move indoors to the Arts Center music room in the case of inclement weather.

Fairy Tale Theater guests are asked to park in the lower lot by the tennis courts at the Richter Park Golf Course by the tennis courts. The MAR trolley will be running from the lower lot up to Richter Arts Center.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Small children (non-walkers) are free. A small snack and drink concession is available on site.
