Overweight Trucker Hit With Heavy Fine In Danbury

A commercial trucker whose vehicle was found to be more than 100,000 pounds overweight on I-84 must now pay a heavy fine.

DANBURY, CT — A commercial trucker whose vehicle was found to be more than 100,000 pounds overweight must now pay a heavy fine.

Connecticut state troopers first caught sight of the oversized load on Wednesday around 7 a.m. when they say it bypassed the Danbury scale along Interstate 84 eastbound by traveling the secondary roads in the area. Further investigation revealed that the carrier out of New York did not have a Connecticut Department of Transportation oversize permit, according to the police.

Additionally, 6 out of the 8 axles were not in compliance with the maximum allowed statute weight of 18,000 pounds per axle, according to the troopers' report. Troopers also reported the truckload's height, weight and length all exceeded legal limits.

Police issued fines to the carrier totaling $39,101 and took the vehicle out of service.
