Severe Thunderstorms Moving Through Fairfield/New Haven County

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for portions of the region.

UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning and special weather statement for Fairfield and New Haven County have been cancelled.


FAIRFIELD/NEW HAVEN COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning and a special weather statement as strong and severe thunderstorms move through the region Monday evening.

The severe thunderstorm warning issued for central Fairfield County and northwestern New Haven County expired as of 6 p.m. the weather service said.

"The storm which prompted the warning has moved out of the area. Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire. However, gusty winds are still possible with this thunderstorm," the weather service said.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. for the region.


A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southern Fairfield County through 615 PM EDT...

At 533 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Stamford, moving northeast at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Fairfield, Greenwich, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport, Darien, Wilton, Weston, Redding, Georgetown and Easton.
