Snow Squalls Moving Into Southern Connecticut Saturday Evening

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service said that fast-moving bands of snow squalls are moving into southern Connecticut Saturday evening. And yes it really is May 9.

About an hour ago reports surfaced in nearby New York of snow falling and this came after trace amounts of snow were already reported throughout Connecticut early Saturday.

In a special weather statement, the weather service said that at 7:43 p.m. there was a band of snow squalls extending from East Granby to near Litchfield to near Redding to Peekskill. Movement was southeast at 50 mph. Visibilities 1 mile or less and winds up to 40 mph are possible with these squalls, the weather service said.

These squalls will be near...
Bridgeport and Fairfield around 750 PM EDT.
Waterbury and Shelton around 755 PM EDT.
Milford and Naugatuck around 800 PM EDT.
Stamford and Cheshire around 805 PM EDT.
Meriden and Wallingford around 810 PM EDT.
Darien and Middlefield around 815 PM EDT.
Norwalk and Guilford around 820 PM EDT.
Killingworth and North Madison around 825 PM EDT.
Norwich and Clinton around 830 PM EDT.

"Use extra caution when traveling through these snow squalls. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads could lead to accidents," the National Weather Service said.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for inland sections of southern Connecticut from midnight until 9 a.m. Sunday. "Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 expected...Freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," the weather service said.

And on the immediate coast there isn't a freeze warning for tonight as it will be a balmy and tropical 35 degrees tonight. On the plus side, temps rebound to around 60 degrees on Mother's Day and there will be plenty of sunshine.
