Tractor-Trailer Strikes CT State Police Cruiser On I-84, Trooper Injured

State police said the trooper was protecting an accident scene on Interstate 84 in Danbury when the tractor-trailer struck her cruiser.

DANBURY, CT — A Connecticut state trooper was injured Friday night when a tractor-trailer struck her cruiser while she protecting the scene of another crash on Interstate 84.

According to state police, the crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. near Exit 8 on westbound I-84. Police said a 31-year-old man from Nuevo Leon, Mexico, was driving a tractor-trailer when he lost control of the truck and crashed into a median guardrail.

Police said the tractor-trailer then struck the trooper's cruiser, which was parked on the shoulder, before it jackknifed and struck a GMC Acadia traveling in the left lane.

The trooper was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said. She was taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A passenger in the GMC, identified as a 22-year-old New Milford woman, also suffered minor injuries, according to police. The driver and a second passenger were uninjured.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was cited for failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded to the crash to deal with a fuel leak. The highway was closed for approximately three hours.
