Western Connecticut State University has announced the appointment of Joshua Sumrell as the new Director of Inclusion & Belonging

Western Connecticut State University announces the appointment of Joshua Sumrell as the new Director of Inclusion & Belonging, effective July 26. Sumrell is currently the Coordinator of the Intercultural Center at Eastern Connecticut State University. "This new position will assist students, faculty, and staff with the information and guidance they need to understand their rights and broaden their knowledge," said Dr. Manohar Singh, WCSU President (Interim). "Joshua will be crucial to implementing our new strategic plan, with a focus on providing our diverse student body with all the tools they need to succeed in our welcoming and inclusive atmosphere."

In his role, Sumrell will focus on the development and assessment of inclusion programs, organizing, creating, facilitating, and delivering educational programming, workshops, events, and speeches centered on equity, access, inclusion, diversity, and cultural awareness. His work will also support WCSU's mission as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, a designation earned this year from the U.S. Department of Education.
The university is also in the process of hiring a new Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer, who will be responsible for compliance with Title IX, overseeing the university’s affirmative action plan, and enhancing recruitment efforts. The position is expected to be filled during the fall semester.
