Darien Library To Resume Normal Hours This Month

The library has also announced a number of other changes set to begin this month.

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Library will resume normal hours, including weekday evening hours, beginning Monday.

According to an announcement on their website, the library will no longer close at 5 p.m. each day. Instead, the library will be open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On weekends, the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Children's Library closes at 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

The library previously adjusted its hours and operations in response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

In addition to new hours, the library will no longer have time limits for using the library and appointments will no longer be needed to visit the Children's Library. Guests will also be allowed 60-minute computer access, and some seating will return throughout the building.

Other changes beginning next week include:

  • Unlimited holds
  • Notary services resume
  • Return items 24/7 through the materials handling system
  • Holds will continue to be picked up from the Community Room
  • Outdoor events beginning this June and continued virtual events

The library said late fines will also resume June 1. Study rooms and indoor events are also expected to return in the coming months.

The library will continue to observe a number of safety measures, including:

  • Masking inside the building
  • Enhanced cleaning procedures
  • Plexiglass at staffed service desks
  • Limited seating

Private study rooms are unavailable at this time and guests are asked to enjoy food and drinks outside of the building.
