FARMINGTON, CT — On Monday, a group of students walked out of Farmington High School to protest the school's denial to raise a Pride flag on its campus, the Hartford Courant reported.

More than a dozen students walked out at 7 a.m., and their plan was to stay in the courtyard — with breaks for final exams and presentations — for 12 hours, or until school officials allowed the flag to be flown.

In a statement to the Courant, Farmington High School Principal Scott Hurwitz said the district is "proud to have an active and collaborative GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance)" but said it's "careful in the practice of posting signs or symbols such as a flag that would open the school district or classrooms up to requests to post a myriad of signs or symbols."
