Glastonbury Students Go to the Head of the Class

Go to the Head of the Class recognizes the academic and athletic achievements of local students with information as supplied by the respective students' schools.

Joe Doyle, a member of the men's indoor track and field team at Bates College, received New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic distinction for the winter 2016 season. Doyle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Doyle of Glastonbury, is a 2013 graduate of Northwest Catholic High School. He is majoring in politics.

Earlier in the Spring Semester the Music Program at Eastern Connecticut State University presented the first concert held in Eastern's new state-of-the art Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC). Among the performers was Shayne Sampognaro '18 of Glastonbury, who sings in Eastern Concert Chorale. Sampognaro majors in Biochemistry.

Anna Wieselberg of South Glastonbury, was among 250 participants in one of the nation's largest university dance marathon fundraisers on Sunday, March 13. Students raised a total of $1,701,667.81, for the Wilmington, Delaware-based Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.

South Glastonbury resident Katherine D'Amica spent spring break serving others through James Madison University's Alternative Spring Break Program. D'Amica, a Psychology major, scheduled to graduate in 2016, traveled to Arutam, Ecuador to volunteer with Fundecoipa.

More than 20 theatre students, faculty and alumni from Eastern Connecticut State University participated in the annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) earlier this semester. This year, Region I of the KCACTF was held at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Among the participants was Molly Bagley '19 of Glastonbury, who majors in Theatre and Communication.

Kori Livingston of Glastonbury graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall 2015 semester with a degree in professional photographic illustration (Bachelor of Fine Arts).

The following students have earned a 3.30 or higher term average to receive the Dean's Award for academic excellence at Colgate University for the fall 2015 semester.

Margo Rybeck, a Biology-undeclared major in the Class of 2019, and a graduate of The Loomis Chaffee School.
