HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford resident admitted this week to stealing firearms from a warehouse in South Windsor last year, the Connecticut district attorney's office announced.

Shameik Camara, 32, of Hartford pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of possession of firearm by a felon and one count of receipt and possession of items from an interstate shipment.

He will be sentenced on Sept. 6 and faces up to 20 years in prison, the district attorney's office said.

The charges against him stem from August 2021, when a shipment of 50 Zigana, Model PX-9G2 pistols was stolen from the South Windsor warehouse of R&L Carriers, a national freight shipping company, according to court documents and statements made in court.

R&L Carriers employees told law enforcement about the theft on Sept. 16, 2021, and investigators identified Camara as a suspect the following month.

The identification was made after officials saw posts on Facebook Marketplace and Offer Up selling high-end speakers and sports trading cards similar to items stolen from the warehouse at around the same time as the firearm shipment theft, the district attorney's office said.

Camara was arrested on Oct. 28, 2021. At the time of his arrest, he had two firearms — one of which was a Zigana pistol taken during the theft, the district attorney's office said.

Since Camara has previously been convicted of felonies, it is a violation of federal law for him to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
