Foxwoods CEO Resigns As Casino Remains Closed

LEDYARD, CT — Foxwoods CEO John James has resigned his position effective immediately to spend more time with his family, according to a statement from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Tribal Member and Senior Vice President of Resort Operations at Foxwoods Jason Guyot will act as interim CEO while a search for John’s successor takes place.

"The Tribal Council believes that together with our talented executive team, Foxwoods will continue to focus on managing through the remainder of the COVID-19 crisis and the re-opening of our facilities at an appropriate time in a way that prioritizes the health and safety of the members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, our Team Members, and the public as a whole. We are currently focused on a strategic reopening," reads a statement from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council.

The Day reported that James, 59, became CEO in August, replacing Felix Rappaport, who died in an apparent heart attack in June 2018. Before coming to Foxwoods, James had spent more than 25 years in the gaming industry.

Foxwoods has furloughed most of its 5,000 employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it's unclear when the casino will reopen.
