Heavy Rain, Fog and Wind to Impact Ledyard's Evening Commute

Weather will be an issue for your drive home today and drive into work tomorrow, and there is also a snow chance on the horizon.

For those of us who have to drive today, it could be far worse, we could be dealing with snow instead of the forecast of heavy rain, fog, and winds that is forecast for the area today.

Temperatures will also be 20 degrees above normal as highs will reach the mid to upper 50s throughout Connecticut on Wednesday.

The entire state is looking at between 1-2 inches of rain, some gusty winds and fog.

Here is the latest information on the timing of the rain and fog via the National Weather Service:

Fairfield, New Haven, and Middlesex counties: Rain moves into the area after the morning commute beginning around 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. During the day up to three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected. Winds will gust up to 15 mph. Temps will be around 55 degrees.

This evening the rain is very heavy and fog will also be an issue. Temps will only dip back into the upper 40s. Another inch of rain is forecast this evening before it winds down before dawn on Thursday.

Fog is expected to be an issue for Thursday’s morning commute to work and last until 9 a.m. There is a chance of showers until 7 a.m. Thursday and then the sun appears and temps rise into the low 50s.

Hartford and Tolland counties: A “Hazardous Weather Outlook: has been issued by the National Weather Service for the chance of a “spotty light freezing rain” in the area Wednesday morning, and there is a moderate chance that rain showers will change to snow late Thursday into Friday morning, but an actual accumulation prediction isn’t possible now, the National Weather Service states.

As for the timing of the rain in Hartford and Tolland counties, showers roll in between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. today, and then it’s steady rain after 1 p.m. accompanied with fog. Fog is also expected to be an issue for Thursday’s morning commute and winds could be gusty and up to 25 mph. The rain ends around midnight.

New London County: Rain doesn’t really get going until 5 p.m. here just in time for the commute home and temps could approach 60 degrees. Rain and fog will be an issue all the way up until 9 a.m. Thursday. An inch and a half of rain is forecast to fall.

Next Snow Chance?

Hartford and Tolland counties may see some snow late Thursday, but for the rest of the state the next real snow chance appears to be Monday night into Tuesday.

It’s unclear how much if any accumulation we’d see and the temps at night are forecast to be cold enough to support snow, but by Tuesday temps would exceed the freezing mark.

We’ll keep you updated on the latest forecast.
