LEDYARD, CT — A man was killed in a roll-over crash after a woman fled a police traffic stop, according to police.

Police made a motor vehicle stop for speeding Thursday at 9:36 p.m. on Route 12 at the Preston town line. During the traffic stop, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed, police said.

A police officer and several witnesses saw the driver, a New London woman, illegally passing vehicles on Route 12 northbound.

Minutes later, Ledyard dispatch received numerous calls reporting a rollover accident on Route 12 near Holmberg's Orchard.

Police arrived at the scene of the accident and found the vehicle involved was the same one that the officer had stopped. The driver and a passenger were able to exit on their own. Another passenger had to be extricated by emergency crews.

All three were transported by ambulance to Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Aaron Baldwin, Jr., 27, of New London, was pronounced dead at the hospital by medical staff.
