Wind Chill Warning Issued for Ledyard

The latest on this weekend's extreme cold and next week's chance of snow are dominating the weather forecast.

Mother Nature seems to have a warped sense of humor. This weekend in Connecticut temps will be near or below zero and with the wind chill factor included it could feel as cold as 30 below zero.

On Tuesday, we’re looking at 50 degrees and rain.

In a Friday morning update from the National Weather Service, a “Wind Chill Watch” is in effect for the immediate Connecticut coastline from Greenwich to Milford to New London. All of the communities on the immediate coast have the “Wind Chill Watch.”

For communities a bit more inland including northern Fairfield, northern New Haven, northern Middlesex, and northern New London counties, and of course Hartford and Tolland counties, a “Wind Chill Warning” is now in effect.

Here is the latest information via the National Weather Service:

For Connecticut Shoreline communities: The Wind Chill Watch is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Conditions will include “dangerous to potentially life threatening wind chills.”

Wind chills could be as low as 25 below zero due to temperatures 0 to 5 below and winds gusting up to 40 mph. Regular temps will be around zero degrees late Saturday night/early Sunday.

For northern Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties: The Wind Chill Warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday. Conditions will include “dangerous to potentially life threatening windchills.”

Wind chills will be as low as 25 to 30 below due to temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees below zero and winds gusting up to 35 mph.

Snowstorm to Start the Week?

Currently, in southern Connecticut, snow is possible late Monday before midnight continuing and quickly mixing early Tuesday with sleet and then changing to plain rain. No accumulation predictions have been made.

In northern Connecticut, snow is not expected until around 3 a.m. Tuesday, mixing with sleet by 9 a.m. and then changing over to rain later there.
