Historical Reenactment In Madison Scheduled For Aug. 24

The event celebrates the bicentennial anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette's visit to America.

MADISON, CT — On August 24th at 3PM the trustees of the Madison Historical Society (MHS) invite all Madison citizens and visitors to join in celebrating the bicentennial anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to America. In 1824, Lafayette, a hero of the American Revolution, returned from France to tour the United States as the nation was readying to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary of independence from British rule.

The MHS will host a reenactment of the 1824 meeting in East Guilford between the Marquis and Colonel Jonathan Wilcox. This free event on the Madison green will be followed by a celebration of the grand opening of the Madison Center for History and Culture at Lee’s Academy at 14 Meetinghouse Lane.
