Initial Snow Accumulation Estimate Made for Meriden

For the second straight weekend we could see see snow and we have the latest update on another wintry weekend forecast.

By all intents and purposes Connecticut’s winter wasn’t a nightmare as the worst of it was contained to mid January to mid February.

But spring, well, that’s beginning to look like a nightmare right now. For the second straight weekend in April we could see snowflakes and this time more areas of the state could see snow on the ground, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast Thursday morning.

Again, we’re not talking huge amounts of snow here, but real accumulation is now possible, according to the National Weather Service.

But before we get to the weekend forecast, we’ll be dealing with heavy rains, strong winds, some fog, and even an isolated thunderstorm or two today.

The stormy weather is expected to begin this afternoon and taper off just before midnight. The entire state could see more than 1 inch of rain and possibly up to an inch and a half of rain. On the plus side, temps will be in the mid 50s Thursday.

A “Hazardous Weather Outlook” has been issued for Hartford and Tolland counties today for strong winds, no advisories have been posted for southern Connecticut Thursday.

On Friday, more showers are possible, but more isolated in nature and temps near 50 degrees.

Saturday into Sunday’s snow?

Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties:

Snow may enter the western part of the state Saturday morning but the heavier snow is expected after 12 p.m. Up to an inch of snow is possible during the day, while the entire region could see another inch or two of snow accumulation before it ends late Saturday night.

The chance for snow here is currently between 60-70 percent, according to the weather service.

Temps will be in the low 40s early on Saturday but dip into the mid to upper 20s, which will allow the snow to accumulate.

Hartford and Tolland counties:

The Hazardous Weather Outlook says “there is a low risk for accumulating snow” beginning Saturday into Saturday night. Unlike, southern Connecticut no accumulation estimate has been made for northern Connecticut by the National Weather Service.

If it does snow here, it’s expected to begin after 1 p.m. and end around midnight. Temps will be in the mid 20s Saturday evening.

More snow is possible late Sunday and into early Monday for Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service states.
