Arakelian opened Beaches & Cream at the beach in July. The seasonal pop up, which serves up a number of unique flavors handmade by Arakelian, will run through Sept. 30.

According to Arakelian, Calf Pasture Beach immediately jumped out as a perfect location for her new pop up for an obvious reason.

"The beach and ice cream just go together," Arakelian said to Patch. "Our beach is gorgeous and busy with visitors. I can't think of a better place to enjoy ice cream than at Calf Pasture."

Tucked away in the beach's garden walk near the lifeguard station, customers at Beaches & Cream can enjoy a wide variety of flavors, some that lean more classical and others that are totally unique creations dreamed up by Arakelian.

"We have the classics like the 'Best Vanilla Ever' and Maple Walnut, but my passion is making ice cream that's a bit different and unique," Arakelian said. "The most popular signature flavors are Black Cherry Oreo and Cold Brew Mud Pie. Kids love the Strawberry Bubblemallow, and there's a rotation of specialty flavors that change often. We also have flights, root beer [floats] and cold brew floats with coffee from Strigo Coffee roasters in Norwalk."

Customer response to Beaches & Cream has been extremely positive thus far, according to Arakelian.

"Everyone has been supportive and excited," Arakelian said. "I already have regulars. I've also met a lot of visitors from out of town who came to enjoy Calf Pasture for the day. They said they would come back simply because of the ice cream."

If successful, Arakelian is even open to making Beaches & Cream a new summer tradition in Norwalk.

"I would love to be here every summer," Arakelian said.

Beaches & Cream is currently open Mondays and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Arakelian also noted she typically stays open later when there are events like concerts or movie nights at the beach, and even offers fresh lemonade, drinks and snacks in addition to ice cream.

Eager customers can also stay up to date on hours and new flavors at Lindsay's Handmade Ice Cream's Facebook and Instagram.
