'Fierce On The Inside': Ridgefield Star Student Athlete

RIDGEFIELD, CT —We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Teresa Costello of Ridgefield, who nominated her "amazing daughter" Emma.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Volleyball

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

I believe Emma should be nominated because she never gives up! She has persevered through so much in her young 17yrs in this world.

From having to prove herself at school to teachers and to herself.

From the many sports she has played since she was 5yrs old-getting playing time, getting no playing time, physically injured many times, concussions, dog bites, body going into shock from dehydration and being placed in a huge tub of ice… she has never let it stop her. She makes me so proud and is my inspiration.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

She may be quiet on the outside but she is fierce on the inside.
