RIDGEFIELD, CT — Forest, meadows, pastures, rare butterflies and guardian llama.

No, it's not the setting for the latest Young Adult sword-and-sorcery saga. It's McKeon Farm, and it's right here in Ridgefield. Even the llama.

The town purchased the property, located at the intersection of Ridgebury Road and Old Stagecoach Road, in 2002. It now falls under the stewardship of the Ridgefield Conservation Commission.

The property also contains wet meadows, which provide important habitat for various species of butterflies, according to the Commission.

Cornerstone Home and Gardens leases space in the upper meadow where the 501(c)3 organization provides special needs educational gardening and job experience to young adults with autism spectrum disorder and other related disabilities. Its "Dirty Hands, Full Plates" partnership with the town's Social Services Department has provided hundreds of pounds of fresh produce to hungry Ridgefield families since its formation in 2018.

Patch reader Pat Giacone captured the sun rising over the sheep pastures in the photo below, and you can see a llama in the background, just at the edge of the morning shade.
