Ridgefield Urges Residents To Prep For Winter Storms

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield Office of Emergency Management and the Community Emergency Response Team are urging residents to be prepared for winter storms.

They recommend that you have the following in your vehicle for unforeseen emergencies:

  • Cell phone charger with battery pack
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Battery jumper cables
  • Spare tire, properly inflated
  • Full tank or minimally, 1⁄2 tank of gas or full electric charge
  • Sand or kitty litter to use for traction
  • Blanket
  • Portable show shovel and brush; ice scraper
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Extra coat, mittens, hat, boots – warm clothes
  • Rain poncho
  • Bottled water (make sure does not freeze) and granola bars (or other nonperishable foods)
  • White flag or white cloth to wave for help
  • Reflective triangles or road flares; water proof matches or lighter
  • Windshield wiper fluid and de-icer
  • Extra cash and important medication
  • Pen and paper
  • If traveling with children or pets, appropriate items for them including diapers, wipes, food options, etc.
