Just because Saturday is April 1 doesn’t mean winter is over for us in Connecticut. We’ll get a reminder of winter on Friday as the state sees snowflakes, possibly some ice and rain throughout the day on Friday and into Saturday morning.

Mother Nature is offering us a couple of nice early spring days today and Thursday before pulling the rug out from under us and sending us back to winter on Friday and into the weekend.

According to leading Connecticut meteorologists, we’re likely not going to need a shovel or anything like that but there could be some icy spots on Friday, especially in inland and northern sections of the state. In the far northern areas of the state, there could be some light snow accumulation too.

The National Weather Service has already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Hartford and Tolland counties for wintry precipitation on Friday.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote “Finally some good weather today! The sun will be breaking out with temperatures in the 50s. A little windy at times! One more dry day tomorrow. It does look like a mess on Friday with some wet snow and rain!

NBC Connecticut Senior Meteorologist Brad Field said, “this would be interesting...March out like a lion and NO April Fool's joke...Friday / Friday night snow and ice interior & hills..”

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote, “Accumulating snow is possible - especially in the hills on Friday. Here's my latest thinking.”

In a blog post for NBC Connecticut, Hanrahan writes that “Here in Connecticut the storm is going to be much too warm for all snow but a messy mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain appears likely.”

He also adds that the messy weather is likely to start Friday morning and continue through Friday night.
