In Memoriam: Wayne J. Simmers

The Southington resident passed away March 15 at the age of 73.

Wayne John Simmers, 73, of Southington, passed away on March 15, 2016, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General.

He was the loving husband of Marie (Billye) (Ferney) Simmers.

Born September 26, 1942, in Natrona Heights, PA, and a graduate of Har-Brack High School.

He was the son of the late Richard and Ruth (Dougherty) Simmers.

Wayne was employed with General Press in Tarentum, PA and later as the Manager of the McGregor Printing Corp plant in York, AL. He was also the York Fire Chief, York Ambulance Chief, Sumter County Rescue Squad Captain, York Building Inspector, and part-time Sumter County Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Melvin Stephens.

In addition to his wife Billye, he leaves three sons, Mike Simmers of Newnan, GA, Jeff Simmers and wife Danni of Valley Grande, AL, and Scott Simmers and wife Jenny of Waynesville, NC; a brother, Allen Simmers and wife Lila of Kennerdell, PA, and an aunt, Mildred Means of Cheswick, PA.

Memorial services will be private.

The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington is assisting with the arrangements.
