SOUTHINGTON/BRISTOL/HARTFORD, CT — A Southington computer tech support firm and a Bristol bike store recently teamed up to help at-risk youths get some pedal-powered transportation this summer.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut, which is located in Hartford, matches qualifying, at-risk youths with community mentors.

Earlier this month, BBBS announced that clients received free bicycles, courtesy of Realized Solutions, Inc. (RSI) of Southington and Biker’s Edge of Bristol.

According to BBBS, RSI donated more than 10 new bikes and safety helmets to the nonprofit organization, "helping support the mentoring relationships between at-risk youth and caring adult volunteers," wrote BBBS of CT in a release.

Realized Solutions has donated new bikes and helmets each year since 2016 and the bikes were purchased from and assembled by Biker’s Edge.

Emma Russell, BBBS of CT operations and development coordinator, said a bike not only symbolizes a literal vehicle, but a mode of transportation from childhood to adolescence.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to have a tool they can use for exercise, transportation, and just being able to bond with their peers. A bike is a great way to expand their world and therefore ignite the potential that it may bring,” Russell said.

“It’s wonderful that RSI does this for our kids on an annual basis.”

RSI has been a supporter of BBBS of CT’s fundraising events over the
years, including the Annual Gala and Golf Classic tournament.

"Biker's Edge has been so supportive of the healthy development of our youth
over the years. The donation from Realized Solutions helps create more activities that
our matches can do together,” said Tara Gill, BBBS of CT director of community-based programs.

“It supports our goal of fostering a welcoming community where kids in need are
supported in reaching their fullest potential."
