Man Awaiting Sentencing In Stamford Overdose Death Has Died: Report

STAMFORD, CT — A New York man who was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in connection with a fatal overdose in Stamford from 2022 has died, according to a report from the Stamford Advocate.

State prosecutors asked a judge on Tuesday to vacate guilty pleas and drop all charges against Daniel McDonald, 32, of New City, N.Y., who was facing four to six years in prison plus probation, the Advocate reported.

McDonald died last month; his cause of death was not mentioned during a Stamford Superior Court hearing on Tuesday, the Advocate said.

On Aug. 29, 2022, officers responded to a home on Maple Tree Avenue and found a 32-year-old man dead from a suspected drug overdose, Stamford police said at the time. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the death as a fentanyl overdose.

After a five-month investigation, police said they identified McDonald as the person who supplied the victim with the fentanyl.

With the help of the Clarkstown (NY) Police Department, McDonald was located in Clarkstown on Jan. 23, 202, and taken into custody without incident, police said.

Officers seized 656 bags of heroin and other drug paraphernalia from McDonald, police said. He was charged with second-degree manslaughter and sale of narcotics.
