West Glen Drive Bridge In Stamford To Close For Construction

The bridge will remain closed for months, according to the city and the police department.

STAMFORD, CT — The West Glen Drive Bridge was scheduled to close on Monday as the city embarks on a replacement project, according to the Stamford Police Department. The bridge is expected to remain closed for the duration of the project, which is estimated to be completed by Dec. 1.

A detour route will be in place and can be viewed here.

Orginally built in 1964 with a pre-stressed concrete structure spanning 63 feet, the overall condition of the bridge was rated to be "poor" by Connecticut Department of Transportation inspection, the project's web page says.

The existing bridge will be replaced with a structure spanning approximately 65 feet with steel beams and a concrete deck on top, with new concrete abutments and wing walls. The proposed bridge was designed to withstand pressures, velocities, impact, and uplift forces from a 100-year flood, according to the project's goals. A speed hump will also be replaced.

Construction was awarded to Dayton Construction Company, Inc. The construction cost is $2.1 million, with 80 percent coming from the federal government, and the remainder from the state.
