Thursday, August 15th at 5pm - Eleanor Kedney will read poems from her latest book, Twelve Days From Transfer, and discuss the craft used to write the poems. With a distinctive voice, she shares with the reader her personal story of grief and acceptance and turns her IVF experience into a profound poetic journey. Though the book’s theme is infertility, it speaks to universal feelings that go beyond motherhood. 

Books will be available for purchase and Eleanor will be happy to sign them.

Please join us as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Keegan Cabin; the more than 100&nbsp;years since our founding under the sponsorship of St. Michael parish; the dedication and&nbsp;burial of our Time Capsule; and the honoring of Charles D. Keegan Sr, who acquired the cabin&nbsp;for us and served as scoutmaster for 33 years!

When: Saturday, September 14, 2024
Where: Charles D. Keegan Cabin and campsite, Camp Yawgoog, Hope Valley, RI
Time: 10 a.m. through an evening campfire
Events: Tours of cabin, campsites and Yawgoog Scout Camp
Afternoon program and the dedication of Time Capsule; mid-to late afternoon.
Evening campfire with storytelling and sharing of memories.
Meals: Light lunch and cookout style dinner provided by the troop.
Cost: $10 per individual ($15 for a family) to cover meals and other costs.
You're all encouraged to join us. Arrive anytime after 10 am, but try to arrive in time for the&nbsp;program, which will be later in the afternoon, followed by dinner. This will be a day event --rain or shine.&nbsp;
Unfortunately scout regulations prohibit overnight camping unless you are&nbsp;currently registered with BSA.&nbsp;
Feel free to bring your family if you think they might enjoy the&nbsp;event. Special "family rate" of $15 for the day includes meals for you and your family.

En Plein Air at SFL September 14 from 10-3pm (rain date September 15)
Artists of all abilities are invited to visit the library and surrounding square to paint or draw their favorite spots.&nbsp;This is a kick-off event for&nbsp;the <a href="https://www.stoningtonfreelibrary.org/event/2024-art-contest-love-where-you-read/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">2nd Annual LOVE WHERE YOU READ Art Contest</a>. Visitors will also be treated to the many artists exhibiting their work at the Borough Art Walk along Water Street. Painter Leonardo Jara will have a pop-up showing at Stonington Free Library.
Art kits for adults and kids&nbsp;will be available starting September 9th while supplies last. Stop by to get yours and make plans to paint on site, September 14th (rain date 9/15).&nbsp;

Early fall is a great time of year to get a full view of the landscape that makes up Gungywamp, an archaeological site of natural and cultural interest. Join us on a guided hike to explore the rocky ridges, glacial erratics and swamps along with the mysterious stone shelter and structures whose use and origin are open to interpretation. Walk with us through the woods and absorb the centuries of mystery of Gungywamp.
A Gungywamp hike is for adults and families who are comfortable walking two miles of moderate difficulty over uneven terrain.
Meets in the parking area at the former Shepherd of the Sea Chapel, 231 Gungywamp Road, Groton.
