WESTPORT, CT — A 20-year-old Weston man was arrested this week on a warrant charging him with larceny, identity theft and related violations, after Westport police said he stole credit cards from a locker at the Westport/Weston Family YMCA and made fraudulent purchases with them.

Massimo Zhong was arrested Monday, and was charged with the following:

  • Fourth-degree larceny
  • Sixth-degree larceny
  • Receipt of Goods from illegal use of a credit card
  • Second-degree identity theft

According to Westport police, the case began on June 3, when the department received a complaint that a wallet and credit cards had been stolen from a locker at the Y, and the cards were used to make purchases at the SoNo Collection mall in Norwalk.

"The investigating officer responded to the YMCA and reviewed surveillance footage," wrote Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "The footage allegedly captured a suspect, later identified as Massimo Zhong entering the YMCA, going into the locker room, and then leaving. He was then captured on surveillance entering a vehicle bearing a CT license plate and leaving the parking lot."

Norwalk police, reviewing License Plate Reader technology, later spotted the same vehicle at the mall, and additional surveillance footage allegedly showed Zhong using the stolen cards at unnamed stores at the mall.
