How to grow a great herb garden

Learn the tricks about herb gardening at Flanders Nature Center on April 12

Love herbs? Wish you could grow them? Have had little success? Don’t give up! On Tuesday, April 12th Flanders will be holding a program on Herb Garden planning & installation led by professional gardener Fabienne Audette, owner of Nibbling Brook Gardens. Fabienne received a Master of Science in Horticulture at Ohio State University and performed her research on Lavenders.

Based on a lifelong passion and experience in gardening, Fabienne will advise on the “Do’s and Don’ts” of growing your favorite herbs. Opening the program with a brief discussion on garden design and site selection, she will demonstrate techniques for bed and soil preparation which are critical for success in Connecticut gardens. Recommendations on selection and maintenance of herbs will also be presented and focus on species vs. hybrids as well as watering, pruning and harvesting requirements.

This two hour hands-on workshop will begin at 10AM and be held outside the Flanders Sugar House which is located a quarter mile up from the intersection of Flanders and Church Hill Road in Woodbury. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Those interested may register online at www.flandersnaturecenter.org or call 203-263-3711, ext. 10, for more information.
