Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Woodbury, Middlebury

The long-duration storm will start with some wintry weather and then it's two days of rain ahead.

The long-duration significant storm in the forecast will arrive in time for the afternoon and evening commute Tuesday, Feb. 23.

The National Weather Service issued a “Winter Weather Advisory” for northern Fairfield, northern New Haven, Hartford and Tolland counties. No advisories have been posted for the immediate Connecticut coastline and Middlesex County.

A coating and up to an inch is possible on the shoreline too but the temperature will be too warm for any serious accumulation there, the weather service predicts.

Here is the latest on how much snow, ice, and rain you can expect from now until Thursday afternoon.

The advisory spans 1 p.m. today to 9 a.m. Wednesday and mentions snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Accumulations include up to one inch of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice. Light snow begins Tuesday, mixes with ice and turns to plain rain early Wednesday.

Freezing rain may greet us Wednesday morning, with little to no ice accumulation expected. Another quarter of an inch if possible before the rain ends early Thursday afternoon. Thunderstorms are a possibility.
