3 Shot At Benning Road Metro Station In DC, Suspect At Large

A teenage boy sustained possible life-threatening injuries in the shooting, according to police.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police are searching for a person they say shot three people at the Benning Road Metro Station in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

Metro Transit police said the shooting happened around 9 a.m. after what they called "a physical altercation." A 15-year-old boy sustained possible life-threatening injuries, while a 34-year-old woman and another 15-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Police said the suspect fled following the shooting.

Metro spokesperson Kristie Swink Brinson told The Washington Post there was "no active shooter" threat.

According to The Post, the teen who was critically injured appeared to be the target while the other two victims were bystanders.

Trains bypassed the station much of Thursday while police investigated. Normal service resumed shortly before 4:30 p.m.

The shooting comes less than 24 hours after an off-duty FBI agent fatally shot a man during an altercation on a Red Line train platform at Metro Center station, according to the Post.
