Well before its heyday in the middle of the 19th century, incorporating hair into jewelry was a way to remember loved ones both in life and after death. Through the examples in the collection of the DAR Museum we’ll examine the history and symbolism of this once quite common type of adornment.

Urgent: About 8 of 15 dogs still need adoption by today /&nbsp;Tuesday,&nbsp;or rescue commitment by today&nbsp;at 12pm and have to leave the shelter by 6pm, or they will be euthanized.&nbsp;They have been labeled urgent due to space at PG County Animal Shelter.
Update at 1:15pm on 9/10:&nbsp;These dogs may still need adoption or rescue: Scott, Musa, Magentia, Leon, Bronny, King, Crystal Amor, and Bryce. If interested in adopting or fostering (outside of PG County), please call or go to the shelter by 5:00pm to meet and adopt a dog. Or, please contact LovePaws, P3 Rescue, or other rescues, and apply to foster. @AAHA Rescue posted: "Please ADOPT if you can! If you can foster, please submit an app with us at lovepawspg.org (fostering is free!)." @P3 Rescue posted fosters are needed for King, Scott, Musa, and Jed.
Adopters: Please visit them at the shelter today before 5:00pm. (The last tour is 30 minutes before closing.)
*In order to apply to adopt a “terrier mix”, you must provide two forms of proof of residency outside of Prince George’s County because of breed-specific legislation. Both forms have to be the original documents, they will not accept a photograph of the original documents.*

On the night of their 20th high school reunion, the self-proclaimed “Multi-Ethnic Reject Group” reconnects while they pregame in Prince George’s County, Maryland. But amid the flow of reminiscing, an otherworldly presence forces these former classmates to face the past head-on and reckon with an unknowable future. The latest from MacArthur Genius Award- winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (An Octoroon, Appropriate, Gloria), this “mesmerizing” (The Wrap) new play garnered a New York Times Critic’s Pick and Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play. Featuring members of Woolly Mammoth’s Company of Artists, Jon Hudson Odom and Erika Rose, in collaboration with The Wilma’s HotHouse.

Few bands can boast a history as fortuitous and storied as The Headhunters. What each member brings to the table forged a history that most bands can only dream of. Their blend of jazz with funk and rock would go on to sell over a million albums worldwide, while the band's legacy would inspire musicians of every genre for years to come, be sampled by hundreds of hip-hop artists throughout the '80s and '90s, and influence countless musicians' playing today. The Headhunters' impact remains a global phenomenon, and their time with Hancock proved to be a life changing experience. The band has released 8 more albums stepping out on their own sans Hancock's involvement starting with Survival of the Fittest in 1975 and on Straight from the Gate in 1977 and most recently Speakers In the House in 2022 and Live From Brooklyn Bowl in 2023.

Managed by Greg Lucas and Craig Walker at Devil Hills Entertainment, the band is poised for success in 2024, having recorded a new album (and accompanying feature length documentary) at the legendary Hyde Street Studios in August 2023 and completed a sold out European tour in November 2023 including two nights at the London Jazz Festival.
