Florida Doctor Disappeared In Gulf, Foul Play Not Suspected: Reports

NAPLES, FL — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for a Florida doctor who went missing in the Gulf of Mexico nearly a week ago, according to multiple reports.

Dr. Chaundre Cross, 49, set sail from Naples on the morning of Aug. 10, and later that evening, the Collier County Sheriff's Office announced it was searching for him after family members became concerned.

The Coast Guard found his 33-foot boat, Vitamin Sea, unoccupied Thursday but announced Sunday the search for Cross had been suspended.

Authorities have not indicated that foul play was involved in Cross' disappearance.

Cross is a radiation oncologist who has practiced in Bonita Springs and Naples for GenesisCare. He is a "national expert in prostate, breast and brain cancer," according to his company profile.

Cross' wife filed for divorce in Collier County the day he set sail, according to NBC News. Authorities have not mentioned the divorce as a factor in the case.
