Make A Difference Fishing Tournament, Inc. is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization, IRS # 59-3587905. Our organization is dedicated to helping children with disabilities through fishing tournaments and marine education. 
We also have a grant program to help the children and their families by funding equipment and therapies that make their lives better. We have provided over $525,000.00 in grants since 2006.
We have no paid staff and are a totally volunteer organization. We started in 1995 and have been able to help thousands of children and their families thanks to the generous contributions of donors and our great volunteers.
Our 29th Casino Night Auction/Benefit will be held Saturday August 17, 2024 at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort. Hundreds of people attend this event to support our cause and have a good time. Our silent and live auctions feature a variety of items, including assorted gift baskets, fishing charters, hotel stays, trips, gourmet dinner parties and so much more. The food for this event is donated by Baystar Restaurant Group, Clear Sky Cafe, Capogna's Dugout, Hog Island Fish Camp, and Hooters.
Get your tickets on the website $50 each or for a special price of 3 for $150, giving you one free ticket until August 13, 2024. This years theme is The Roaring 20's.

Keynote speaker Dan Nigro retired FDNY &amp; 9/11 hero. Retired FDNY and Chief of Department, overseeing all rescue &amp; recovery for the World Trade Center site following 9/11. He retired after 30+ year with the FDNY to become a NY Fire Commissioner. As Chief of Department, Nigro held the highest uniformed rank, overseeing all major uniformed FDNY bureaus: Operations, Training, EMS, Communications, and Fire Prevention.

The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, (CMOCF) will host its annual One Step Closer to the Cure 5Kand 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, September 14, 2024, starting and ending at Albert Whitted Park, 480 Bayshore Drive SE. Individuals and teams are invited to walk, run, or jog with fellow supporters along downtown St. Pete’s spectacular waterfront and raise money to help local women suffering from ovarian cancer. 
To date, CMOCF has donated $1.1 million to women who need childcare, lost wages, housekeeping, transportation to doctor visits, groceries, rent or funds to keep the electricity and water running while they undergo treatment. Funds have also gone to support ovarian cancer research, prevention, and education in our community. 
 “One Step assures survivors a community cares for them,” said Claudette Carlan, Chairman of the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, created in her mother’s name to help women who were also suffering from this disease. “We get so many thank you notes from families we’ve been fortunate to help. Our greatest accomplishment has been to remain an all-volunteer foundation for more than 20 years and to give hope to the survivor who needs us.”

 
 Race results will be posted to the website and medals awarded immediately following the event on September 14, 2024. Register for the One Step Closer to the Cure at <a href="https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/SaintPetersburg/CMOCF" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Cmocf.org/onestep</a> . The 5K registration fee is $45 per person, plus a $3.70 sign-up fee and the 1-mile walk/run is $35 plus a $3.10 sign-up fee. Participants receive a race T-shirt and a unique referral code to pass along to friends and family. There is also a sleep-in option for $40 plus a $3.40 sign-up fee which includes a T-shirt. Prices will increase on September 6, 2024. 
The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 10:00 a.m. The 1-mile Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Baker Act in Florida allows a child, an adult or an elder to be involuntarily sent for a psychiatric examination.

This seminar is designed to provide mental health providers with a thorough understanding of the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act) including its history, use, impact on human rights and actions to take while protecting vulnerable persons and their rights.

Specific Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the legal context and intentions of the Baker Act.
2. Be able to describe the laws regarding involuntary examinations.
3. Be able to identify the basic human rights impacted by the Baker Act and the Act’s unintended consequences.
4. Obtain action steps to protect yourself, your children, and all those impacted by the Baker Act.

Our guest speaker:
Carmen Miller has been a private attorney in the Tampa Bay area for many years. She is an expert on the Baker Act and served for over 8 years as an Asst. Public Defender for the 13th Judicial District, Hillsborough County.
