Red Cross Opens Polk County Shelter Wednesday: Hurricane Irma
The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at St. John's United Methodist Church and Preschool in Winter Haven.
LAKELAND, FL — The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at St. John's United Methodist Church and Preschool in Winter Haven Wednesday evening. (Subscribe to Lakeland Patch for all Irma-related news.)
The shelter is open as of 5 p.m. at 1800 Cypress Gardens Blvd. Due to limitations, those with special dietary needs should bring their own food to the shelter.
All other general and pet shelters are now closed. The Polk County Health Department at 1255 Brice Blvd. in Bartow is the only special needs shelter that remains open. This shelter is limited to residents with medical or physical conditions and/or dependent on medical electrical equipment.
