This presentation will provide an overview of common terms and concepts, explore how land records can help your research, and assist you in locating these valuable resources. The presentations will also share examples showing how to go from finding a deed to finding the land described in it on the modern landscape. Presented by Karen Fortin.

Keynote speaker Dan Nigro retired FDNY &amp; 9/11 hero. Retired FDNY and Chief of Department, overseeing all rescue &amp; recovery for the World Trade Center site following 9/11. He retired after 30+ year with the FDNY to become a NY Fire Commissioner. As Chief of Department, Nigro held the highest uniformed rank, overseeing all major uniformed FDNY bureaus: Operations, Training, EMS, Communications, and Fire Prevention.

Curlew Hills will shine 9/11 Memorial Lights on September 10 &amp; 11 from 8-10 p.m. at their 9/11 Memorial. 
The giant twin beams will shine more than 1000 feet in the sky each evening in likeness to the two beams of light that shined in New York City following 9-11. This beacon of remembrance serves as an iconic symbol of 9/11 that both honors those lives lost and celebrates the unbreakable spirit of America. 
The lights will be on display rain or shine. Bring your family to drive by and see this beautiful display.

Albert Whitted Park

The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, (CMOCF) will host its annual One Step Closer to the Cure 5Kand 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, September 14, 2024, starting and ending at Albert Whitted Park, 480 Bayshore Drive SE. Individuals and teams are invited to walk, run, or jog with fellow supporters along downtown St. Pete’s spectacular waterfront and raise money to help local women suffering from ovarian cancer. 
To date, CMOCF has donated $1.1 million to women who need childcare, lost wages, housekeeping, transportation to doctor visits, groceries, rent or funds to keep the electricity and water running while they undergo treatment. Funds have also gone to support ovarian cancer research, prevention, and education in our community. 
 “One Step assures survivors a community cares for them,” said Claudette Carlan, Chairman of the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, created in her mother’s name to help women who were also suffering from this disease. “We get so many thank you notes from families we’ve been fortunate to help. Our greatest accomplishment has been to remain an all-volunteer foundation for more than 20 years and to give hope to the survivor who needs us.”

 
 Race results will be posted to the website and medals awarded immediately following the event on September 14, 2024. Register for the One Step Closer to the Cure at <a href="https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/SaintPetersburg/CMOCF" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Cmocf.org/onestep</a> . The 5K registration fee is $45 per person, plus a $3.70 sign-up fee and the 1-mile walk/run is $35 plus a $3.10 sign-up fee. Participants receive a race T-shirt and a unique referral code to pass along to friends and family. There is also a sleep-in option for $40 plus a $3.40 sign-up fee which includes a T-shirt. Prices will increase on September 6, 2024. 
The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 10:00 a.m. The 1-mile Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m.

For example, specific strategies are required to identify and work with records before 1860 and locating identifiable names among government records can raise the difficulty level. Even though it can be challenging, it can also be rewarding. Especially if you plan to volunteer for community projects like our Clearwater Colored Cemeteries program. We’ll provide research strategies to take you around the obstacles to help you find the records you seek. Presented by Taneya Koonce. Taneya Koonce works extensively in the genealogy community with leadership roles in the USGenWeb Project and the Afro-American Historical &amp; Genealogical Society (as National Treasurer and Nashville Chapter President). Through her Academy of Legacy Leaders Facebook community, Taneya facilitates education and inspiration for 2,500 family history enthusiasts. She is an active genealogy &amp; family history blogger and author. Genealogy has been her passion since 2005 especially in technology, historical newspaper research, digital photo &amp; file organization, and genetic genealogy all while keeping family history fun!
