Bodycam Footage In Tyreek Hill's FL Traffic Stop Reveals New Details

"Do you know who that is? (That's) one of the Miami Dolphins' star players," an officer could be heard telling another in police footage.

This story has been updated to say Tyreek Hill was cited for suspicion of careless driving and to add comments from citations authorities say were given to Hill.

MIAMI GARDENS, FL — Several minutes of police footage shows the moments Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over for careless driving, and then, handcuffed after being pulled from his vehicle in Miami Gardens near Hard Rock Stadium.

Dolphins defensive tackle Calais Campbell was also handcuffed while speaking about the incident to officers, CNN reported. (See some of the bodycam footage below.)

Patch has reviewed the lengthy body camera videos released Monday evening by the Miami-Dade County Police Department.

In an act of transparency, the department said it was releasing the footage to keep the community informed. The footage spans a total of 105 minutes and 33 seconds in multiple video clips.

Drew Rosenhaus, Hill's agent, called for the termination of the officers involved in the incident, NBC Sports reported.

“For me, personally, I think the police officers that did that to Tyreek shouldn’t be in that position,” Rosenhaus told the sports outlet as the footage played. “They should be let go. Look at — the guy who just kicked him right there. That guy should be fired. That’s out of control. The guy that jumped in [and] put him in a chokehold? There’s no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that when Tyreek wasn’t being aggressive or violent or fighting back in any capacity. That was horrendous how they treated him. They didn’t treat him like a human being.”

Miami-Dade Dir. Stephanie V. Daniels said in a statement her department will conduct a "thorough, objective investigation" into the incident.

Earlier in the week, she said an unnamed officer involved was placed on administrative duties during the probe. Police said Tuesday evening that officer Danny Torres, with 27 years of service, remained in administrative duties as Internal Affairs completes an investigation.

In a 7-minute body cam clip, Hill is heard telling others he was hit during the incident.

"I'm chilling, though," he is heard saying. "I ain't being disrespectful to nobody."

While Hill is heard telling teammate Jonnu Smith not to leave, an officer is saying, "your buddy is about to go to jail, right now."

In the footage, Hill is heard saying he will not run from the scene.

In a more than 27-minute video, an officer is seen and heard asking another officer, "Do you know who that is? (That's) one of the Miami Dolphins' star players."

Multiple witnesses were seen in the footage, some of them attempting to learn what is happening from the officers.

Hill had a brief comment Monday shortly after the footage was released.

Officers ultimately cited Hill with a seatbelt violation and careless driving, and he was released at the scene. Police released Tuesday evening copies of those citations, which Patch has obtained.

The careless driving citation alleged Hill was driving at 60 mph without a seatbelt in a high-traffic area.

"Let's make a change," Hill tweeted.

The South Florida Police Benevolent Association in a statement Monday accused Hill of not cooperating with officers, NBC Sports reported.

The association said the handcuffing of Hill was for the officers' "immediate safety," the outlet reported.

“Before the Dolphins game yesterday, an incident occurred where Tyreek Hill was placed in handcuffs before being released. First, to be clear, at no time was he ever under arrest. He was briefly detained for officer safety after driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great risk of danger," Steadman Stahl, the president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, said in a statement to NBC Sports.

“Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on the scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs. Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground. Once the situation was sorted out within a few minutes, Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave."

The association reportedly said in the statement it is best to initially comply with law-enforcement orders before complaining. Though the association said it will allow the investigation to play out, as of Monday, it stood with the officers.

“While we are confident in the actions that led to the stop of Mr. Hill, as with any investigation, we will wait for all the facts to come out, along with any explanation Mr. Hill may have for his actions that initiated this unfortunate incident," the association said in the statement, per NBC Sports.

The Miami Dolphins condemned the "overly aggressive and violent conduct directed towards Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith," the team tweeted Monday night.

While the Dolphins praised its working relationship with Miami-Dade Police, the team underscored Hill's previous question of what would have happened if Hill was not in the public's eye.

"It is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility towards these players, yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace, as we are grateful this one did. 'What if I wasn't Tyreek Hill?' is a question that will carry with resounding impact," the Dolphins said.

The team said it supports Hill and the other players. According to the Dolphins, the body cam footage shows some "officers who mistake their responsibility and commitment to serve with misguided power."

The Dolphins urged Miami-Dade Police to take action against the "officers who engaged in such despicable behavior."
