2017 Tampa Bay Beer Week: What To Know Before You Go

The fifth annual celebration will feature brew-related events throughout the Tampa Bay area.

TAMPA, FL – Get ready to raise a glass for all things Tampa Bay brewing during the fifth annual Tampa Bay Beer Week.

Tampa Bay Beer Week is a nonprofit organization that looks to celebrate Tampa Bay beer culture and showcase the region’s emerging craft and specialty beers. The organization consists of Tampa Bay area brewers, brewery owners, distributors, home brewers and independent beer enthusiasts.

This year’s Tampa Bay Beer Week is set to take place from Saturday, March 4 to Sunday, March 12 with several kickoff events taking place on Friday, March 3.

Here’s a list of the featured events taking place as part of the 2017 Tampa Bay Beer Week:

Friday, March 3

Brew’s Banner Release and Tampa Bay Beer Week at Coppertail – Noon

Coppertail Brewing Company, 2601 E. Second Ave, Tampa

Brew’s Banner, a “super hoppy” Double IPA, will be available in four-pack bottles.

In the Loop Brewing Beer Release – 6 to 11 p.m.

In the Loop Brewing, 3338 Land O’ Lake Blvd., Land O’ Lakes

In the Loop will release several of its core beers for the first time, including their Farmhouse Saison.

TBBW Presents: The Ultimate Brewer II

Crooked Thumb, 555 10th Ave. S., Safety Harbor – 6:30 to 11:30 p.m.

For the second year, Tampa Bay Beer Week kicks off with a friendly competition among local breweries. More than 25 breweries will face off in a contest that requires them to brew a beer with a unique mystery ingredient. The event’s attendees will be the judges in the blind taste test format.

Saturday, March 4

Fourth Annual WOB 5K – 8 a.m. to noon

Hosted by World of Beer Westchase

Run through the streets of Westchase and support a good cause during the World of Beer Westchase Fourth Annual Charity 5K. Proceeds from the event support the Westchase Charitable Foundation, which raises money to support families whose members are battling a serious illness or facing a family tragedy in the Westchase community and the Tampa Bay area. The entry fee is $40 on the day of the race. Walk-up registration begins at 6:15 a.m. with an 8 a.m. start. 7th Annual Dunedin Craft Beer Fest – noon to 10 p.m.

Edgewater Park, 51 Main St., Dunedin

Dunedin House of Beer will host the 7th Annual Dunedin Craft Beer Fest, a family-friendly event that will showcase more than 50 Florida breweries. Admission is free and live music will be provided by Full Fledged Unit, Crackerbilly Band and Sunset Bridge Band. Volunteers are still needed. FBG Craft Beer Festival – 2 to 5 p.m.

Contanchobee Fort Brooke Park, 601 Old Water St., Tampa

The annual Florida Brewers Guild Craft Beer Festival will feature more than 200 beers from 50 Florida craft breweries. Proceeds from the event will go to the guild, a nonprofit trade association that looks to preserve the rights of craft brewers in Florida. All attendees will receive unlimited samples and a commemorative tasting glass. VIP ticket holders will be allowed in at 1 p.m. Designated drivers will be admitted free. Barrel Aged Imperial Dissonance Release at Calusa Brewing – 2 to 11 p.m.

Calusa Brewing, 5701 Derek Ave., Sarasota

Calusa Brewing will highlight its Dissonance Breakfast Brown Ale in a limited bottle and draft release. The ale is aged six months in bourbon barrels featuring subtle notes of vanilla and coconut, layered with locally roasted coffee and Saigon cinnamon.

The Starkbierfest – 5 p.m.

Hofbrauhaus Saint Petersburg, 123 Fourth St. S., St. Petersburg

This German-themed event will feature stein holding contests, Schuhplattler dance-offs, games, prizes, and beer and food specials. The event will also feature Delicator, a beer crafted by Hofbrau especially for the Starkbierfest.

Cigar City Brewing Spotlight – 7 to 9 p.m.

World of Beer Brandon, 2878 Providence Lakes Blvd, Brandon

World of Beer Brandon will spotlight Cigar City Brewing, featuring Guayabera 2015 Marshal Zhukov’s and more.

Cigar City, Oskar Blues and Perrin Brewing Spotlight – 7 to 9 p.m.

World of Beer South Tampa, 402 S. Howard Ave.

World of Beer will spotlight three breweries during Beer Week: Cigar City (Raspberry Halo, Cigar City Vanilla Hazelnut, etc.), Oskar Blues (Hotbox IPA, Gubna, Dale’s Pale Ale) and Perrin (Grapefruit IPA, Black Ale, Perrin 98 Problems Caus A Hop Ain’t One).

Oxbow Tap Takeover – 7 p.m.

Coppertop Brewing Company, 2601 E. Second Ave., Tampa

Oxbow, a Main brewery, will take over the taps at Coppertop with their farmhouse and wild beers, like FPA, Space Cowboy and Noel.

Angry Chair vs. Coppertail Battle of the Breweries – 7 p.m.

Lowry Parcade & Tavern, 1213 W. Waters Ave., Tampa

Pick your team and earn points by drinking their beer or best the other team in a game. The brewery with the high school at the end of the night will win a trophy and bragging rights.

Sunday, March 5

Brew-B-Q Brunch – 10 a.m.

Buddy Brew Coffee, 2020 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa

Buddy Brew Coffee teams with Florida Avenue Brewing, 3 Daughters Brewing and Holy Hog BBQ, featuring a limited edition coffee beer on tap from Florida Avenue and a coffee inspired barbecue dish. There will be other special menu items, corn hole and prize giveaways.

East Meets West Meets South – 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This event features a fishing tournament, frozen T-shirt and watermelon eating contests, relay races and more, with $5 Ballast Point brews like Sculpin, Mango Even Keel, Longfin Lager, Wahoo Wheat and Pineapple Scuplin.

Last Snow Tapping – 2 to 4 p.m.

BJ’s Brewhouse, BJ’s Restaurant, 3800 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park

Funky Buddha Brewery will be pouring its Last Snow from 2 to 4 p.m. and more beers from the brewery will be featured.

Pair O’ Dice Battle of the Brewers – 3 to 11 p.m.

Pair O’ Dice Brewing, 4400 118th Ave. N., Suite 208, Clearwater

Ken, Kyle and Dominique will battle to make the most delicious and creative beer out of limited ingredients. They will be served as a three-flight in the Tasting Room and guests will vote on their favorite. There will be a penalty for the “loser.”

Jacksonville’s Intuition Ale Works will take over the taps of Hops and Props with three variants of their Underdark.
