Auto Thief’s Friend Dies Week After Crash: St. Petersburg Police

The Jeep's thief now faces a vehicular homicide charge following the death of his friend about a week after a St. Pete crash, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — More than a week after being thrown from the back of a stolen Jeep, the friend of the auto thief died from his injuries, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

Ke'Andrae Davis, 21, was speeding while driving the stolen Jeep the night of Feb. 10, heading south on 20th Street South just before midnight, police said.

His friend, Vincent Green, 20, jumped onto the rear of the Jeep before Davis sped down the street.

A short time later, Davis lost control of the vehicle and it swerved and flipped, ejecting Green off the back, police said.

Green was brought to a local hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries Monday, police said.

Davis climbed out of the Jeep and left the area before officers arrived. He was found and arrested Feb. 14.

He was originally charged with grand theft motor vehicle, reckless driving with serious bodily injury, leaving scene of a crash involving injury, felon in possession of firearm, tampering with a witness, resisting an officer without violence and having no valid driver's license.

Following Green’s death, Davis now also faces a charge of vehicular homicide.
