'Dangerously Cold Conditions' Prompt New Advisory For GA Counties

The wind chill advisory will go into effect at 11 p.m. Friday for several Georgia counties amid a second cold front.

GEORGIA — A wind chill advisory was issued for 11 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Saturday for several Georgia counties as weather officials predict low wind chills.

The advisory was issued for Bartow, Douglas, Cherokee, Forsyth, Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Whitfield, Murray, Chattooga, Hall, Polk, Floyd, Dawson, Spalding, Henry, Pickens, Gordon, Haralson, Carroll, Clayton, Fayette, Rockdale, Heard and Coweta counties.

The National Weather Service's Peachtree City office reported "very cold wind chills," some as low as zero, could enter north central, northwest and west central Georgia.

"The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves," the weather service said in the alert.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 18 degrees Thursday night and 31 degrees Saturday. The predicted low temperature Saturday night is 15 degrees.

In its hazardous weather outlook, the weather service foreshadowed a second wind chill advisory could be put in place overnight Saturday into Sunday morning for north and central Georgia due to "dangerously cold conditions."

The weather service told Patch on Wednesday that a second cold front is expected to travel through Georgia this weekend. Meteorologists noted wind chill values could be closer to the single digits for the second time this week.

While the cold blast is anticipated to affect a large portion of the state, skies should be clear and sunny both in Columbus and Savannah during the weekend.

As of around 10:15 a.m. Friday, the weather service predicted the following forecast:

Today: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Northwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 31. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 15. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 40. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 25.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 49. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Wednesday: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Wednesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Thursday: Showers. High near 67. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
