GEORGIA — Several Georgia counties will undergo a flood watch Wednesday evening with rainfall in the forecast through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, north Georgia is experiencing "patchy dense fog" Wednesday morning, limiting visibility.

"Some patchy dense fog will restrict visibilities to less than one-half of a mile across portions of north Georgia. The fog should lift after 10 a.m.," the weather service said in the alert.

Both the flood watch and the fog alert were issued for Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Douglas and DeKalb counties; however, other counties are impacted by one alert or the other.

Clarke and Barrow counties are included in the list of counties enduring morning fog.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday afternoon and nightfall with the heavy rain expected in the evening, the weather service said.

A heightened chance for flooding starts in the night hours across north and portions of west Georgia. Weather officials advised a half-inch to 1-and-a-half inches of rain could last through Thursday morning.

Heavy rain could continue Thursday through Friday night with scattered thunderstorms possible in the state.

"Rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are possible across northern Georgia, with lower amounts in the 1 to 3 inch range expected over central Georgia through the weekend. These rainfall totals could lead to flooding, including rises in local streams and rivers," the weather service said.
